Arsene Wenger’s side won a comfortable match against Galatasaray, thrashing the Turkish side to 4-1 victory. Arsene Wenger also left a number of key players in London to rest as he travelled with a young squad to Istanbul.
It was a match of spectacular performances by Aaron Ramsey and Lukas Podolski as they both scored twice to give Arsenal a one sided victory at Türk Telekom Arena. Wojciech Szczesny returned in the goal and Mathieu Debuchy also made his first appearance after 3 months due to injury.
Newcastle have shown an amazing form in their previous fixtures by winning six out of the last eight in League, they also ended Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the last fixture. Papiss Cisse who came in as a substitute scored both the goals for Magpies.
Wojciech Szczesny started against Galatasaray on Tuesday and it will not be a surprise if he starts ahead of Martinez against Newcastle, despite Martinez started in the last four fixtures.
Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscienly are injured and will not be featuring on Saturday, Calum Chambers is also out due to suspension. Arsene Wenger is therefore left with very less option and can introduce a youngster in the starting line-up by moving Debuchy to back.
Arsenal is still suffering injury crisis with Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, About Diaby and Mesut Ozil ruled out and it isn’t good news for the Frenchman who is also facing many defensive players side lined due to injuries.
Youngster Jal Alnwick made his debut last weekend against Chelsea when he was called in second half as both Newcastle first choice goalkeepers, Rob Elliot and Tim Krul are out.
Newcastle’s full back Ryan Taylor is injured again and will not be playing against the Gunners this weekend, Davide Santon is also injured. Steven Taylor is also out due to a suspension in the last match.
Alan Pardew is also facing injury crisis after a number of players side-lined in midfield, Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissokho will be missing the weekend’s trip to Emirates.
With so many players injured and side-lined for much of the season, Newcastle’s two suspensions is also a big setback for the Magpies.
Arsenal Predicted XI
The Frenchman is not left with many choices. And will try to reinforce the defence by not repeating the same mistake he did against the defeat to Stoke.
Newcastle United predicted XI
Jan will be in the goal making his debut for Newcastle against Arsenal. Moussa Sissokho who is suspended can be replaced by Cheick Tiote. Pardew will have to choose between Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse to start in the front. Cisse played wonderfully against Chelsea and scored two goals, Ayoze has played most of the season on the wing and is a versatile player.
Ayoze Pérez vs Mathieu Flamini
The young Spaniard reportedly turned down Barcelona and Real Madrid to move Newcastle United and with his brilliant performance in the last month Perez has shown why he was so wanted by them. Ayoze is a versatile player and is expected to play behind the striker causing problems to Mathieu Flamini. Perez will surely take advantage of Mathieu who is not in his best form so far in the season.
Alexis Sanchez vs Massadio Haidara
Alexis Sanchez who was bought in the summer has lived up to the expectations by showing brilliant performances so far in the season. The Chilean has adapted to English football quickly and is one of the star players of the season. Sanchez was rested by Wenger for midweek Champions League fixture and is expected to return with the same strength, pace and scoring ability against Magpies causing trouble to Newcastle’s left back.
Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle
As Newcastle travels to Emirates on Saturday a couple of goals are expected. Both the teams won their previous matches and are missing a lot of players in the back due to injury crisis. Newcastle defended their two goals lead against Chelsea brilliantly and Alan Pardew will try to repeat the same at the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile Arsenal defeated Galatasaray with a young squad and with many attacking options Gunners will have an upper hand over Newcastle United on Saturday.
