Erling Haaland is enjoying his life in England to its fullest, so far netting a whopping 17 goals in 10 games for Manchester City. The striker has already shattered two records, becoming the fastest player to score double figure goals and bag three hat-tricks in the Premier League. Moreover, all this has cost City only €60 million which was Haaland’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund. While Guardiola’s side may have won the race to land Erling Haaland this summer, he already looks set to join European giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.
The Los Blancos too were in the line to acquire the signature of the Norwegian, but their obsession with Kylian Mbappe meant City toppled them. However, Real ended with neither of Haaland or Mbappe as the PSG superstar gave a last-minute ditch to the Spanish giants by extending his stay in Paris. Madrid now don’t want to miss out on Haaland, who reportedly asked City to insert a ‘special clause’ in his contract which would allow him to leave for the 14-time Champions League winners.
Son of former Real Madrid president reveals Erling Haaland’s ‘Real Clause’
Real Madrid are building an image of themselves where they are currently knows as ‘backroom dealers’. They earned their nickname after club president Florentino Perez had reportedly struck a backroom deal with Mbappe to join Real for free this summer. However, the 23-year-old didn’t honour the agreement and went ahead with his bumper three-year extension at Parc des Princes.
A similar case is now being revealed by Fernando Sanz, the son of former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz. Fernando claims that Real have already agreed to bring Erling Haaland to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2024. The player too has played an important role here by inserting a special clause in his City contract which would help Real Madrid to acquire his services without negotiating with the English side. Speaking on El Chiringuito, Fernando said:
“The information I have is that there is an exit clause for [Erling] Haaland in the second year, and the curious thing is that with very beneficial conditions compared to the rest for a club… Which is Real Madrid.”
The show’s host Josep Pedrerol further added:
“Haaland puts in a clause that allows him to leave after two years but with priority for Real Madrid. Madrid puts up whatever money it takes and takes Haaland without talking to City.”
According to Spanish outlet MARCA, City also have included a €200 million release clause in Erling Haaland’s five-year deal which will be in effect by the summer of 2024, and will then be lowered to €175 million the following summer. If that is the case, Real Madrid will have to fork out a whopping €200 million fee to bring the striker to Spain. However, it is the same amount Real were ready to pay for Mbappe last summer per multiple reports.
Florentino Perez is once again the man behind this covert operation, who wants to sign Erling Haaland for his Galacticos. The president also eyes the former Dortmund striker as the long term replacement of Karim Benzema, who is 34 now. Though the Frenchman has showed no signs of slowing down, Real are going to need his replacement in near future. And with Haaland too dreaming of rocking the Los Blancos’ famous white shirt, it seems a match made in heaven for the 22-year-old to replace Benzema at Santiago Bernabeu.
