If reports in Spain are to be believed, Everton have agreed to sign River Plate defender Ramiro Funes in a £5million deal paving way for Chelsea to make their fourth bid for John stones. According to Guardian, Chelsea have so far failed with their three attempts in signing the central defender and Everton have just given them encouragements to make the fourth and final offer.
Earlier this week, Chelsea saw their £30million being rejected by the Toffees and been given a figure of £40million as the benchmark, if they want to come back again with an offer. Chelsea are deperate to add central defender in their ranks and will go to the extent of paying £40million if they have to.
John Terry’s substitution on Sunday raised too many unanswered questions about Chelsea’s defensive situation and signing Stones seems the only way out for Jose Mourinho and the Blues. Being fully aware of the Stones saga, Roberto Martinez is doing his bit to bring in defenders before the transfer window closes and in Romero Funes, he is certain to being experience and quality at the back.
According to Marca, Villarreal are also interested in signing the Algerian International but the River Plate defender is keen on the Premier League move and has decided to join Everton ahead of the Yellow Submarines.
With Funes signing for the Mersyside club, one expects John Stones saga to be put to bed after Chelsea have become relentless in adding quality to their side. Having signed Abdul baba Rahman recently, Chelsea are now on the verge of signing Pedro Rodriguez from Barcelona giving Manchester United a huge body blow, who were tipped to be the favorites to sign the Barcelona attacker.
