Ex-West Ham United star Valon Behrami joins Watford FC

Switezerland international and ex-West Ham United midfielder has officially joined newly promoted Premier League side Watford FC. The 30-year-old midfielder who had previously plyed his trade in Serie A, Premier League and Bundelsiga have joined Hamburgers SV. Behrami joined Hamburger SV last season and played 22 games in the enitre season. 

The Swiss internationa becomes Watford’s sixth signing following their promotion to the Premier League in this season. The club has already signed France midfielder Etienne Capoue who joined from Tottenham for a club record fee, striker Matej Vydra, defenders Jose Halebas Sebastiab Prodl and goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis.

The midfielder has played 59 international matches for Switzerland. He was anintegral part of Switzeland squad last season.

After joining the Premier League side, Behrami said to te club official website: “This is a great club and I know the way the owners work. They’ve made some great signings.

“I’ve followed Watford since Gianfranco Zola was the manager. I played for him at West Ham and since then I was always looking out for Watford.
 
“Finally the time has arrived when Watford are back in the Premier League and it was a good solution for me, so I’m very happy now.
 
“It’s very attractive; when Mr Pozzo called me I was excited. It’s a new adventure for me, a new challenge, and I’m really hungry for this opportunity.”

About his previous stint in the Premier League he opined: “I had good and bad experiences in the Premier League because I had a great season, but then I had a bad injury as well and that stays in my memory.

“But I think it’s the best league in the world and I’m very excited to be back. It won’t be easy, that we know, but it’s going to be an exciting season.
 
“I’ve played for 10 years at a high level now so hopefully my experience can help in the difficult moments, but there’s a good mix of experienced players and young players here, and I think everyone can give their help in this team.”
