After a convincing 1-0 victory against Stoke City in the first leg of the League cup Semi-final, Liverpool will travel to Exeter for their first game of the FA Cup. This fixture comes on the back of a number of injuries to Jurgen Klopp as he will miss all 4 of his central defenders for this game. They will hope to get over the line and advance to the 4th round even with a second string XI.
Exeter City have a great chance to cause an upset by beating a weakened Liverpool side and will be ecstatic if they can knock the Reds out of the competition. Here is the preview of the game along with the Team News, Expected Line-ups, Predictions and Betting Odds.
The Exeter City vs Liverpool game will be played on Friday the 8th of December at the St James’ Park in Eexeter. The kick off is scheduled at 7:55 pm BST (1:25 am on Saturday IST).
Paul Tisdale will take a late call on the fitness of David Wheeler who has not had much of practice in the last month. Christian Ribeiro, David Noble and Jamie McAllister are all fit without injuries but may not play a part due to lack of match practice. However long term absentees Christy Pym, Ryan Harley and Will Hoskins will all be unavailable for this game against Liverpool.
Liverpool have 4 players injured since the kick off at Britannia. Phillipe Coutinho, Lovre, Toure and Ibe have all picked up hamstring injuries and will join the likes of Henderson, Sakho, Skrtel, Sturridge and Flanagan in the injury list. Klopp however has declared Tiago Ilori fit for the game and is likely to start.
Olejnik; Woodman, Brown, Moore-Taylor, Davies; Holmes, Tilson, A. Nicholls, Grant; T. Nicholls, Reid.
Bogdan; Lucas, Ilori, Smith, Randall; Milner, Allen, Can; Lallana, Texiera; Benteke.
Brown vs Benteke:
Benteke has not been great in his last game for the club but is the only forward fit for this game. He will surely pose plenty of trouble to the Exeter back four and Brown who will be at the heart of the home defense will have his work cut out if his team are to take this fixture to Anfield.
Ilori vs Reid:
The Liverpool loanee who returned to the club after an unsuccessful stint at Villa will be put into the game straight away because of the injuries to the squad. He will have to be on his toes and deal with the likes of Reid if he wants to earn the trust of his manager.
Exeter City: 13/2
Liverpool looked an improved side in the game against Stoke and should have blown the Potters away. They will surely hope to take the momentum going into this fixture but with loads of changes to the playing XI, Liverpool might find it hard to run away with the game. Exter City are traditionally a tough team to beat and can easily take this game to Anfield and may be even knock the Reds out of the competition.
