Former England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has expressed his disappointment over Christian Eriksen’s move to Manchester United from Brentford.
The Manchester United has signed Eriksen as a free agent. The Denmark star has become the second new arrival under manager Erik ten Hag after agreeing a three-year contract at Old Trafford until 2025.
Before him, United had signed up left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyernoord. According to reports, Ajax star Lisandro Martinez is also on his way to link up with Ten Hag at United.
Eriksen decided to join United after spending the second half of last season at Brentford. The move comes just over a year after the former Ajax, Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening European Championships game against Finland.
His career as a professional footballer looked as good as over at that time before he made an unexpected miraculous return to the pitch.
Following the unfortunate incident, Eriksen left old club Inter Milan by mutual consent as Italian rules prevented him from playing with a heart monitor.
Brentford then gave Eriksen the opportunity to return to top flight football just seven months after he suffered the cardiac arrest. The English outfit gave him a short deal until the end of the season.
Feel sorry for Brentford: Darren Bent on Christian Eriksen’s transfer:
With Christian Eriksen deciding to join Manchester United, Darren Bent has said he feels sorry for Brentford. Bent was not impressed with Eriksen’s decision to snub Brentford after what they did for him last season.
The former Spurs striker took to Twitter to state that Brentford were the club who helped Eriksen get back to his best before United took him away, tweeting:
“I can’t help but feel sorry for @BrentfordFC. They were the catalyst in getting Christian Eriksen back to Top form but @ManUtd prize him away . Anyone else feel sorry for them ?”
