Turkish giants Fenerbahce have reportedly agreed to sign Manchester United’s star striker Robin van Persie this summer, according to Sky Sports. The 31-year-old Dutch striker who still has a year left on his contract will likely head towards Turkey this summer.
Fenerbahce club director Guiliano Terraneo recently travelled to London to discuss a potential deal with Manchester United officials for the star forward. But Manchester United have not yet made any statement on the situation.
Portuguese winger Nani was the first Manchester United player this season to join Fenerbahce for reported a sum of £4.5m. Nani spoke about this transfer after joining the club. He said: “I haven’t had the chance to talk with Robin van Persie yet. But if he comes to Fenerbahce, I am sure that he will be very successful.
“I know Robin very well and it would be the right decision if Fenerbahce sign him.”
Nani is excited about the deal and looking forward to playing alongside his previous team mate in the coming season.
Robin van Persie had joined Manchester United in 2012. He was a great success in the first season itself as he won the Golden Boot and helped United secure their 20th Premier League title. But since then his form took a dip and he failed to live upto the expectations from the star attacker. Last season was worst of all as he remained out of action for majority of the season due to injuries and eventually lost his starting XI spot.
Manchester United will only have two strikers left in their squad if Robin van Persie deal materialises. They had released on-loan forward Radamel Falcao on the conclusion of the last season. With Van Persie’s exit Louis van Gaal will be left with Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez. Hernandez is due to miss the starting of the season after he got injured during an international friendly. He is suspected to have fractured his collar bone.
