Liverpool have been doing great business this summer and already signed six players for the senior team in the form of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Robert Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne.

The Reds are still in the market to add more players to their squad.

Liverpool had a disappointing last season and scored only 52 goals in 38 games and they have a major striker problem to be solved. Their first choice striker Daniel Sturridge has a major fitness issue and spent the most of the last season on the sidelines. Top scorer in League was Steven Gerrard scoring 9 goals who also left this summer for Los Angeles Galaxy.

There is still so much improvement needed in the squad and the Merseyside club is looking to make the best out of the transfer window.

Raheem Sterling has almost signed for Manchester City for almost £44 million plus £5 million add ons. Liverpool will have to share the 20% of the transfer fee with Queens Park Rangers, the former club of Sterling.

Liverpool will have the funds from Sterling’s departure as well to spend in this window to build a squad to atleast qualify for the Champions League next season.

We are predicting 5 potential arrivals to Anfield this summer based on the players linked with the club and based on the positions they need players most.

Asier Illarramendi

The 25 year old defensive midfielder is currently out of favour at Real Madrid. Illarramendi arrived at Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 from Real Sociedad and failed to justify his €32.2 million price tag. He could not break into the first team ahead of Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric and was mostly used as a substitute. The next season Xabi Alonso moved to Bayern Munich and Toni Kroos arrived to Bernabeu and he was still not used mostly. But whenever he got a chance to play, he showed good defensive skills for a midfielder. He is known as a good tackler and a good passer of the ball. He is more like a regista than a ball winning midfielder which makes him ideal for Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool team. The midfielder is heavily linked with a move to Anfield for a fee around £20 million as reports say.

Christian Benteke

The towering Aston Villa striker is the number one priority of Brendan Rodgers but Aston Villa are demanding £32.5 million for the Belgian target man. Liverpool are not ready to pay more than £25 million for the frontman and believe that Aston Villa will let him go for that amount. With the current strikers Liverpool have, they are going to take Benteke sooner or later. Sturridge is too unfit to be relied for the whole season. New boy Danny Ings is not likely to be the first choice striker. Divock Origi who came back from a loan spell at LOSC Lille did not do well there and he needs time to settle in at Premier League considering his young age. Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert scored a total of 4 Premier League goals last season and are likely to be sold. Therefore the arrival of Benteke is imminent. Benteke is known as a clinical finisher and scored 13 goals in 29 matches for Villa last season. He had a superb second half of the season under new boss Tim Sherwood.

Ludwig Augustinsson

Liverpool have only one left back in the form of Alberto Moreno. Jose Enrique is unlikely to stay at Anfield as he has major injury problems. He almost did not feature for the Reds in the last two season after back to back injuries. 21 year old Copenhagen left back Ludwig Augustinsson had a brilliant UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign for the champions Sweden and attracted Liverpool. The player is likely to move to Anfield this summer.

Denis Cheryshev

The 24 year Russian winger has been linked heavily in recent weeks as a replacement of Raheem Sterling. The Real Madrid youth product had a tough time to break into Real Madrid’s first team and spent the last season on loan at Villareal. He scored 4 goals and assisted 9 in his 26 games at Villareal. He is an orthodox winger who has a great speed and known as a good crosser of the ball. He and Benteke can be an ideal partnership as Benteke is a good header of the ball. Now that Sterling is leaving, we may see the Russian to move to Anfield.

Mario Gomez

The latest rumour about Liverpool is a potential swap deal between Fiorentina and Liverpool which includes Mario Gomez to move to Anfield for Mario Balotelli’s move to Fiorentina . The 30 year old German spent a poor last season at the Serie  A club scoring only 4 goals in 20 matches. The former Bayern player is known as a poacher but struggling to find the net consistently at Italy.
