It is official, yes it is- Rafael Benitez has been sacked by the mighty Real Madrid. After a disappointing run of results the club has finally taken into consideration the manager’s future. The club has terminated his contract and Benitez has been sacked by the Spaniards. Zidane now becomes the gaffer of Los Blancos. Benitez has been sacked after just seven months in charge. His last game was against Gary Neville’s Valencia where Madrid settled for a 2-2 draw.
Club legend Zinedine Zidane will now take over as the gaffer of the Spanish club. Zidane, who made 225 appearances for the club, was managing Real Madrid Castilla, but has now been promoted to manager of the 10-time European champions. Zidane now becomes the 13th manager for Real Madrid in this century. Mourinho who lately got sacked by Chelsea was rumoured to take over as Real Madrid’s manager.
But, surprisingly, Zidane was announced as the manager. The fans are delighted with the news but former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Jose Mourinho would have been the best option to replace Benitez.
Speaking to the media, he said, ‘’People were very unhappy when Ancelotti was sacked,” Calderon said. “He [Benitez] wasn’t the first option, and the main problem is the president doesn’t know which coach to choose.
“Zidane was a great, great player but he’s been coaching for only two years. So perhaps it’s too much to give him the responsibility of Real Madrid.
“It’s his best option [to get Mourinho]. I think for Mourinho it’s a difficult moment to decide, but I’m sure the president has offered it to him. Maybe Mourinho is waiting for Manchester United, it’s been his main aim.”
Jose Mourinho is now highly likely to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester following the rumours of the Dutchman’s sacking.
