Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has finally revealed the reason behind his sushing celebration after scoring a sensational goal in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Hull City. After scoring from outside the box, he responded by holding his finger to his lips, making it clear he was proving a point to someone. There were speculations that the Switzerland international took a dig at manager Arsene Wenger for not including him in the starting lineup in several games.
There were also suggestions that the celebration was targeted to those back in Switzerland who have been criticising him for his remarks about playing for Albania.
However, Xhaka has now cleared the confusion over the controversial celebration and gave a bizarre reason for it saying that he dreamt about that celebration.
Xhaka said: “It was spontaneous and I didn’t plan it. I think on the night before the game I dreamt about it.
“It was like deja vu – and that’s why I did it.
“I’d seen the celebration in a dream before. Emotions were high too.”
Speaking to arsenal.com , Xhaka added: “I’m not somebody who will score a goal every weekend, but I’m always proud and happy when I do score – and if it’s from long range, then it makes me even happier.
“It’s one of my strengths – shooting from long range. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn’t, but when they do go in, it makes me proud.
“It’s always special to score your first goal for a new club. Of course, this was a goal to make it 4-1, so it wasn’t that crucial, but for me, it was very important and one I won’t forget. It makes me proud.”
The Swiss star scored one more brilliant goal in the very next game against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup third round.
Meanwhile, after struggling to get maximum playing time, Xhaka has started Arsenal’s last two games after Francis Coquelin suffered a knee injury against Chelsea. The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has been very impressive in the midfield and it will be really interesting to see Wenger’s team selection after Coquelin recovers from the injury.
