Guus Hiddink issues warning to Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s star man and the reigning PFA Player of the year, Eden Hazard has suffered a spectacular fall from grace over the current season as the player still hasn’t scored in the season and is facing an uncertain period with injuries as the festive period came to a close. Hiddink took a stern approach when quizzed about Hazard and has given a warning about his motivational level to him.

“I’m not his mother, they get proper attention. They all have an individual approach. One needs a lash, another needs an arm. Another one needs to be pinched a bit. It’s different but we give him time to come back to his level.”

“For me it’s about freshness. If your mind is fresh and players are eager to step up and enjoy training that’s a signal of freshness. He has won trophies but this season he has had some physical problems.”

“Yesterday was the Ballon d’Or and you see the freshness of the players who win the Ballon d’Or – they are playing like youngsters. That’s what we are aiming for with him. He has to enjoy it and get rid of the physical problems then he will come into his normal shape.”

“I think for the Ballon d’Or, you have to establish yourself over more seasons [than just one]. Hazard is capable in the future but there are other demands.”

Not too long ago, Hazard was in the running to be the Ballon d’Or contender from the Premier League, such was the regularity with which he tore apart defences. His form last season culminated in him and Chelsea sweeping all the domestic team and individual honours as they dominated the league from start to finish.

As the season progresses, Hazard is expected to be back amongst the goals and awards, such is his quality, but currently one would feel for the superstar as he is going through a very tough form drop at such a tender age.
