Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth last week.
The France international, whose career at the Emirates has been marred by injuries, made his first appearance since November 2015 but suffered another setback when he limped off the pitch after only 16 minutes due to a muscle injury. And now, Wenger has revealed that the full-back will be out of action for six weeks.
Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s clash against West Ham, Wenger said:“Debuchy has a severe hamstring injury, he could be out for six weeks.”
“It is frustrating for me, but even more for him. He has an exceptional attitude and works very hard.
“He is very disappointed. But he is a fighter and will come back.”
With Hector Bellerin nursing an injury, Debuchy’s injury will be a big blow to the Gunners. Their midfielder Santi Cazorla is also out of action for around three months after suffering a knee ligament injury.
Meanwhile, the North London outfit is also set to miss Olivier Giroud’s services in the upcoming clash. The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury during the game against the Cherries and while it looked a minor niggle initially, Wenger said that the striker has not been declared fit.
“I thought Giroud would be available, but the last news I got is that he might not be available,” Wenger added.”He will be tested Friday. But he will be available for [Basel on] Tuesday.”
There are also some good news for the Gunners as their striker Danny Welbeck has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.
