Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to challenge Leicester City and other Premier League clubs for the signature of want-away Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar.
As reported in The Daily Mail, Liverpool who were linked with the 23-year-old striker in the summer, are set to reignite their pursuit of the Senegalese, as a part of a plan to bolster their attacking options and as a long term replacement for out of favour Daniel Sturridge.
Despite, igniting interest from Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, as a teenager, Babacar has had a frustrating time at Fiorentina in recent years. After a series of loan spells with other clubs and seasons hampered by injuries, the striker has struggled to become a reach his potential in Florence.
The forward is yet to be capped by the Senegal senior side is unlikely to be utilised in the African Cup of Nations, making him a useful potential acquisition for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are set to lose key man Sadio Mane in the January competition.
In addition to Mane’s absence, mercurial striker Daniel Sturridge has been linked with a move away from Anfield due to his unhappiness at a lack of game time, while it is uncertain when Philippe Coutinho will return to full fitness after an ankle injury.
With Babacar reportedly keen on a move away from the Florence club, the Reds could be wise to swoop quickly to secure their once the January window opens.
If they don’t, they could face competition from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, Leicester and Middlesbrough, who are all monitoring the rough diamond.
