Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, according to the reports in Portugal.
The Gunners have reportedly sent scouts to check on the forward after failing to sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal are looking for a central defender extensively but a striker is also reportedly on Wenger’s agenda as the transfer window close looms.
Islam Slimani is one of the highly rated strikers in Portugal as the Algerian international have scored an impressive 32 goals in 42 games for both club and country last season. The performances meant he has attracted interest from a host of Premier clubs which include Leicester City, West Ham, West Brom and Everton.
According to Here Is The City Sport, Arsenal have made contact with Sporting Lisbon and are ready to offer £25m for the Algeria international, but Sporting are believed to want £30m.
The 29-year old have featured for full 90 minutes in their season opener 1-0 win against Pacos Ferreira on Saturday. The player still has four years left on his contract with the Portuguese club.
Arsenal have used Chilean international Alexis Sanchez as their target man in the opening two league games but are keen to buy a new striker as they cannot be over reliant on French international Olivier Giroud.
