According to reports in Portugal, Sporting Lisbon are interested to sign Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã claims that the 32-year-old’s agent is holding talks with Sporting on Tuesday. The player could potentially be available for free as Manchester United are keen to offload him.
New manager Jose Mourinho is clearly not interested in the German legend who have been one of the best midfielders in the world over the past few years. Schweinsteiger who signed for Manchester United last season has failed to make the impact he was expected to make as his season was hampered by injuries.
Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon looks at the player as a potential replacement for Adrien Silva, whose agent has confirmed that a move to Leicester City is imminent.
The 32-year old has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United with the arrival of Jose Mourinho as the manager forced him to train with the reserve squad.
The German international have not featured in any of the games for Manchester United this season including pre-season tour and was largely expected to leave Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window.
Last week, Jose Mourinho admitted that it would be ‘very difficult’ for Schweinsteiger to feature for United this season as he is interested in providing youngsters a chance ahead of the 32-year old.
Schweinsteiger is on international duty and will play his farewell match against Iceland on Tuesday in his homeland.
