Hull City Boss Wants To Make Arsenal Defender His First January Signing

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will not be over joyed by his team’s position in the points table, going into the last game of the year in the Premier League. They are still 9 points off the top of the table and will have to work hard to get there come the end of the season.

The manager spent big money in the transfer window but he has not been able to settle into a lineup that can constantly give him victories in this busy schedule in England and this might see him jump into the January transfer window for some additions to keep his squad fresh for the title race.

With new players coming in, Wenger might be tempted to let a few players go in January and clubs around the Premier League are already ready to raid the Emirates outfit for players who are not in the first team.

A number of players at the Emirates are fearing for their positions in the squad and one player who might make a move in January is defender Carl Jenkinson.

The former Charlton star has been at the club since 2011 and has ever since spent a couple of years on loan at West Ham United. He was with the Hammers in the previous season as well, putting in some decent performances but he has not been able to get into the first team, even for cup games under Wenger at the Emirates.

He was supposed to act as a backup for Hector Bellerin in the squad but Wenger decided to stick with Gabriel as a right-back leaving the 24-year old defender with just 5 appearances in all competitions this season.

So it does not come as a surprise that Wenger is ready to let him leave in January.

A number of PL clubs are ready to swoop for him but Hull City boss Mike Phelan has openly registered his interest on the player.

The newly promoted side have now conceded more than 2 goals a game this season and are in need of defensive reinforcements if they are to stay in the top flight for another year and Mikel Phelan, the manager has revealed that the Arsenal man is a transfer target for the Tigers in January.

“Yes, he’s been spoken about. But there are a few others in the hat for Carl,” Phelan said ahead of Friday’s Sky Live game with Everton. I would love him to come here. I’ve spoken to staff at Arsenal and I’ve been encouraged by it.”

“But I do also realise that there are other clubs interested in Carl. So that’s where we’re at at the moment and nothing definite has gone ahead and there are others,” he added.

At 24, Jenkinson has a huge career ahead of him but if Wenger does not deem him fit enough to stay at the club, without even a genuine right-back in the squad to cover for Bellerin, it might be best for both parties to part ways.

Do you think Arsenal should let Jenkinson leave in January?
