International Champions Cup: Ex-Liverpool stars face off as Barcelona beat La Galaxy 2-1

Treble winning La Liga giants FC Barcelona edge past MLS side La Galaxy 2-1, to register their maiden victory of this season in their first pre-season game. Luis Suarez found the back of the net at the stroke of half time. The Uruguayan star brilliantly controlled the ball and blasted the ball into the net to give Barcelona the lead.

Midfielder Sergi Roberto increased the lead in the 56th minute, as second half substitute Andres Iniesta feeded a brilliant ball to Roberto. Roberto’s pile driver shot went straight into the net. Tommy Meyer scored the consolation goal for the hosts in dying moments of the game.

Luis Enrique fielded a strong side against La Galaxy as senior players like Jeremy Mathieu, Luis Suarez, Pedro started the game. He made 11 changes in the second half thus rotated every single player in the game.

The reiging UEFA Champions League winners were in control of the game from the very beginning and dominated the proceedings.

The match grabbed several eye-balls as Ex-Liverpool players Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez faced each other in this game. Gerrard had joined the MLS side this season after completing his career at his childhood club Liverpool.

For the home side the big names like Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard were substituted in the second half. Galaxy’s young players relished the chance to play Barcelona.

Tommy Meyer scored a late goal from a powerful header to give the home fans something to relish.
