Jose Mourinho Admits Manchester United May Miss Out on their Transfer Targets

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has suggested he might not get the signings he need this summer.

The Red Devils are keen to close the gap with their cross-city rivals, Manchester City, who won the Premier League title last season with a lead of 19 points.

Jose Mourinho’s side have not been prolific in the pre-season so far. They managed a 1-1 draw against Club America and another goalless draw against San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.

However, it is still understandable since they are missing a host of first-team players.

But considering the quality of their oppositions so far, the results are dampening the mood of the fans ahead of the new season. With new Premier League rule, all the clubs need to complete their transfer business before August 9. It is the deadline day for Premier League clubs as per the new amendments made by FA.

The club had so far landed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant at Old Trafford for next season. Now, to know the bench strength at Manchester City is pretty good, there is a feeling that Manchester United need to add more top talent to their roster.

On the other hand, Liverpool broke their bank to sign numerous players, as they are also looking quite strong going into the new season. Even other clubs have made considerable additions to their roster and Manchester United are still working out on their transfer plan for the next couple of weeks.

Asked if he needs more signings at the club, Jose Mourinho said: “One thing is what I want and another thing is what is going to happen.”

Anthony Martial’s Departure Not in His Hands

Also, there is a lot of speculation around Frenchman Anthony Martial. The 22-year old had endured a tough spell at Old Trafford after the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

His agent came out in public and suggested Martial could be moving away from the club this summer.

But Jose Mourinho has revealed the departure of Anthony Martial is not in the hands of the player. He still has one year left in his contract at the club, and Manchester United has the option to extend his contract by an additional year.

“I would like to be in Los Angeles now and I am in San Jose, you cannot do whatever you want in life,” said the Portuguese coach, speaking on Martial’s transfer.
