Juan Mata was Chelsea’s player of the year for two consecutive seasons in 2012 and 2013 but Jose Mourinho showed no respite to the Spaniard as he sold the attacking midfielder to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Since joining United, Mata has become a fan favorite at Old Trafford and this weekend Mata will go back to Stamford Bridge for the first time since leaving Chelsea. Ahead of his return to the bridge, Mata has been showing no love for his former club as Mata has revealed how he is ready to put a dent to Chelsea’s title bid this season.

Juan Mata was writing in his blog about how he and the entire United team are ready to hunt down Chelsea in their own backyard and play for the all three points. Mata said:

“Obviously, our intention is to get the three points again and we will try from the kick-off until the final whistle.

“The best thing is that we get to this game in a very good moment, with confidence, but we are aware that we must perform at our best level if we want to beat Chelsea.”

Mata highlighted on his troubling few months under Jose Mourinho, which ultimately led to his exit from the club. Mourinho was critical of Mata’s defensive contribution to the side and decided to let him go and entrust his faith in the Brazilian midfielder Oscar.

Revisiting his time under Mourinho, Mata said: “I tried my best in training and in every game with the minutes that I had but when United came it was a great option for me to carry on with my career.

“I just wanted to go to a place where I feel happy. And I am now. This is a massive club and this move is perfect for me.”

Ahead of his visit at Stamford Bridge, Juan Mata has both confidence and form behind his back as he looks to stop Chelsea from winning the title without any fight. Manchester United will go in to the game on the back of a 6-match winning run in which Mata has scored 2 goals against Liverpool and 1 goal against Manchester City.

Juan Mata cherished the atmosphere inside Old Trafford for the City game, he said: “It was a special game, we had had several consecutive defeats against City and both the fans and the players felt it was time to change that streak,”

“Beating your Manchester rivals and, on top of that, being able to score in front of your home crowd was a truly amazing feeling, especially because we stretched our good moment and we keep adding points.”

After two crucial wins against Liverpool and Man City, its Chelsea next for United and Mata as Louis Van Gaal continues the impressive work in his first season with the club.
