Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed midfielder Juan Mata is a better player at Old Trafford than he ever was.
The Spaniard was expected to leave the club when Jose Mourinho has taken charge at Manchester United but instead the talented midfielder has thrived under the Portugues tactician and remained an integral part of Mourinho’s plans this season.
Jose Mourinho has sold Juan Mata to Manchester United after ousting him from the team during his first season at Chelsea in his second spell. The Blues fans were furious with Mou as Mata was their best player in their previous two seasons and have also won Chelsea’s player of the year award.
But the 28-year old have seemed to have sorted out his problems with Mourinho as he has been a regular for Manchester United this season.
‘When I came here people thought Mata was in trouble but I knew he wouldn’t be in trouble,’ Mourinho said after their 2-0 win against Watford.
‘One thing was the football I wanted my Chelsea to play and the other thing I want my Manchester United to play.’
Mourinho has revealed that the Spaniard was unable to play the way Mou wanted during his Chelsea spell but has admitted that Mata has developed into a much better player at Old Trafford as he was able to adjust easily.
‘Mata has adapted to the football I want to play. I knew since the beginning he would be an important player,’ the Portuguese manager added.
‘I think he feels that confidence in me, that confidence in the game we want to try to play.
‘So he is happy. He is happy on the pitch and you can see it the way he plays.’
Juan Mata will have a major role to play for Manchester United as the club are still fighting across all four competitions and are set to play a lot of games in a busy schedule in the coming months.
