Juventus Plan Shock Liverpool Raid, Midfield Maestro Eyed As Potential Target

Juventus are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
That’s according to reports from Italian outlet La Stampa, which claims that the 22-year-old is a top target for the Bianconeri as manager Massimiliano Allegri wants midfield enforcements.
The German international has impressed in spells at Anfield but has never really established himself in the side. His versatility has counted against him often as he’s been shunted from one position to another without being able to settle into the team consistently with a place of his own.
It would seem premature for the Reds to let him go at this stage, however, especially given the potential he’s shown. It would probably take a very large offer for Jurgen Klopp to even consider losing his versatile midfielder.
Interestingly, according to La Stampa the other name apparently being pursued by the perennial champions is Mohamed Dahoud, who went through a period of being constantly linked to Anfield himself.
Both Dahoud and Can’s contracts expire in 2018, meaning both Liverpool and Borussia Monchengladbach may get a little tetchy if the two Germans haven’t renewed by the end of this season, as they’ll be available on a Bosman in less than 12 months time.
Can was instrumental to Liverpool midfield during Klopp’s debut season, but he’s struggled to progress this term and is probably behind Gini Wijnaldum in the first choice lineup.
At 22 though, there’s plenty of room for improvement and under Klopp’s guidance, he could definitely develop into an elite Premier League central midfielder.
Liverpool have been trying to extend Can’s deal since the summer, but as of yet, have been unsuccessful. With both Liverpool and Juventus after Dahoud though, there could be a situation where Juventus either sign the Bundesliga midfielder and leave Can alone; or move for Can – enabling Liverpool to go for Dahoud.
