Surprisingly, Gerrard was not included in the starting lineup. Reds were trailing the game 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from United’s Juan Mata and at the interval, we saw Steven Gerrard coming on for Liverpool as a sub. Shockingly enough Gerrard was given the marching order within 38 seconds of the second half after he stamped on Ander Herrera. Juan Mata completed his brace later to double the lead. Daniel Sturridge scored the consolation goal for the Reds.

The last time when Liverpool visited Old Trafford, they returned home with an embarrassing scoreline. Louis van Gaal’s side emerged victorious with a 3-0 scoreline where Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie found the back of the net.

Steven Gerrard scored a brace but missed his hat-trick by a whisker as he missed a penalty. Luis Suarez netted the third goal to complete the demolition over the arch-rivals.

The third game of the 2013/14 season saw the two rivals clash against each other in the Premier League. Daniel Sturridge scored his third consecutive winner for Liverpool in the first three games of the season. The striker did not let the fans feel the absence of Suarez due to a ban from FA and helped Liverpool to secure the best start of the Premier League season since 1994-95. Liverpool edged past rivals with ease and registered a 1-0 win.

It was the battle of the star strikers between Manchester United’s Robin van Persie and Liverpool counterpart Luis Suarez. Robin van Persie won the battle of the forwards as he scored the opening goal for Manchester United and took the free-kick for the second goal which was headed in by Nemanja Vidic. Daniel Sturridge scored the consolation goal for the Reds.
