Lionel Messi has the world at his feet at the moment as the Argentine superstar is fresh from the treble winning season with Barcelona. Messi, 27 is still growing as a player which is never a good sign for his opponents.

Messi is currently on international duty with Argentina aiming to guide his side to a successful Copa America campaign in Chile.

During his preparations, Squawka caught up with the Barcelona star and asked about the recently concluded season and other aspects from the game.

While discussing the Premier League, Messi tipped Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as one of the finest players in Europe.

Messi praised the striker’s technical ability and his exceptional work ethic. Messi stressed on how Manchester United will never allow Rooney to leave England.

Messi said: “If you look at the technical ability of a player like Wayne Rooney, he is as good as any player in Europe.

Messi continued: “Rooney has exceptional quality. Also works very hard for his team. Manchester United will never want to let him leave.”

Such high regards from one of the best players in the world must come as a morale boost for the Manchester United and England captain, who is currently relaxing on the beaches of Bahamas.

Rooney and Messi have met on several occasions in the past. Manchester United defeated Barcelona at Old Trafford during the 2007-08 Champions League Semi Final but, Messi took his revenge when Barcelona beat United in two Champions League Finals in following seasons.
