Liverpool close to signing Manchester United transfer target

According to the very reliable Brazilian newspaper Globoesporte, Liverpool are closing in on Brazilian star Firmino on a 5-year-deal for Roberto Firmino for a transfer free of €25m. Reports suggest Liverpool are in final stages of negotiations with Hoffenheim. The Hoffenheim midfielder is currently involved in the Copa America, and any deal will be completed only after the tournament.

While English media also confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian star, reports in Brazil suggest the Reds are on the verge of signing Manchester United target Firmino. It is believed Firmino likes the idea of joining his Brazilian team-mate Coutinho at Liverpool, despite having better offers on the table.

Meanwhile, England U21 international Danny Ings has taken shirt number 28 at Liverpool, avoiding 7, 8, and 9 insisting he wants to earn the right to wear the legendary shirts. Ings is also set to cut short his holiday after the Euros U21 gets over, to join the Reds on the pre-season tour.

“I would make sure I am established before taking any of those numbers [like No 7 or 8]. It is such a huge club. That was the thinking behind it. I wouldn’t want to go to Liverpool and chuck a shirt on my back like that, it is pressure you don’t need. The expectation at clubs like that is huge. Obviously I am going to work my socks off to earn that kind of number one day. For now I will take a high number and work hard.

“I think Liverpool were giving me three weeks from the last game of this tournament,” he said. “I will be raring to go so I will probably only have two and join up with them on tour because I don’t want to be playing catch up. I would prefer to be around the squad and ready to go for the start of the season.”
