Liverpool’s performance in the new season that have earned them the 3 points in their first two games has revealed a glaring weakness in the squad.

The team has not been able to control the midfield area and have not been able to dominate games like they would want and have paid the price for it in the games against Arsenal and Burnley since the start of the new season.

This has left many fans with a view that Klopp should dive into the transfer market for a defensive midfielder who can provide cover for his back four and stop them from leaking goals.

The club has been linked with the likes of Mohamed Dahoud in the past but have not been able to make a move for any of their transfer targets in that position.

However, one player who refuses to be out of the radar of the Anfield outfit is AS Roma midfielder, Leandro Paredes.

Liverpool have already made an official £17m bid for the midfielder this summer and wanted to complete the deal long before the start of the new season but the Italian outfit have been adamant that he is not up for sale this summer and that they will not be listening to offers from clubs.

That has not stopped the likes of Manchester City, Schalke and AS Monaco from scouting for his signature with just a week left in the transfer window.

One team that is now out of the race though is Italian giants AC Milan.

Milan were reportedly interested in his signature with the player expressing his view to stay in Italy but it is now understood that the San Siro outfit have withdrawn from the race and are not looking to sign him this summer.

“I asked Roma for Paredes, but I got a clear no from [Walter] Sabatini,” he told Italian outletMediaset Premium.

It is understood that Luciano Spalletti considers him indispensable and that he will not be selling him but Liverpool are understood to be in the driving seat for his signature if Milan are forced to sell.

It is understood that Paredes might cost above the £25m mark but with desperation setting in at Anfield, Liverpool might just be able to spill the cash this summer.

Do you think Liverpool should capture Paredes this summer?
