Liverpool in pursuit of PSG defender Lucas Digne

Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing out of favour Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne. French media reports that Lucas Digne who had joined the Ligue 1 champions in 2013 is all set to leave the club this summer after he failed to book his place in the first team ahead of Maxwell.

The 22-year-old French full back is apparently looking for regular first team action and given his position at PSG it is extremely difficult for him to get chances ahead of regualr player Brazilian Maxwell who has performed brilliantly week in week out.

PSG manager Laurent Blanc had confirmed a few days back that the player will leave the club. He had said: “It is he who very clearly asked to leave.

“He is with us, he is very professional, he trains very well and has prepared excellently. This is a good thing for him and possibly for us, should he stay with us this season.”

Now as the player’s departure is imminent, it is believed that the Reds are in race to sign the young defender this season.

Liverpool have already signed 7 players this season and just sold Raheem Sterling. With Luis Enrique set to leave the club this season, Lucas Digne would perfectly fit into the squad. He and Alberto Moreno would fight for the left-back position.

They have also signe Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic this season who can play anywehere in the defense. Gomez was spectacular during the pre-seasons and earned a lot of praises for his energetic show.

It will be interesting to see whether Rodgers would actually go for a proper left-back in Digne or prefer 18-year-old Joe Gomez as Alberto Moreno’s cover.
