After an emphatic victory at the Etihad Stadium, Jurgen Klopp turned his attention towards the home form of his new club. They played out an impressive 2-1 victory against FC Bordeaux on Thursday, a victory that gave them an entry into the next round of the competition. They will now face Gary Monk’s side that is badly in need of confidence with just 1 win in the last 7 games.
Klopp still has a number of injuries to key players with Jordan Henderson and Sakho still sidelined for this game. Daniel Sturridge also picked up a fresh injury and might not be available for a week or two at least. The manager already expressed his doubts on whether Benteke can play two games in less than 4 days. Lucas will also not be available as he will serve a suspension for 5 yellow cards he picked up this season. Here is how they are expected to line-up against Swansea City on Sunday.
The Belgian shot-stopper made a mistake on Thursday that led to the only visitor’s goal and will have to do better if he wants an extended place in this Liverpool squad.
The most assured defender for Liverpool this season, Clyne has been full of energy putting in some swift displays in both attack and defense for his club.
Skrtel scored a screamer against Manchester City but was dropped for the mid-week fixture due to an injury. He is however back to full fitness and will regain his place in the first team.
Lovren had a bad start to his Liverpool career but has not done any harm to his chances after he got a place in the squad in Sakho’s absence. He will keep his place yet again at the back for Liverpool.
The young full back has been superb for Liverpool in the last few games and will play on the left side of the back four for the home team.
The Welsh International will keep his place in the squad after his performance against Bordeaux in the mid-week fixture, especially in the absence of Lucas.
The German International has found great form in the middle of the park under Jurgen Klopp and has been an important part of Liverpool’s midfield this season.
Milner has been relentless and full of energy in the midfield for Liverpool. He has been a lively presence for Liverpool and will surely start against Swansea City.
The Brazilian limped off in the game against Manchester City but is fit to face the Swans and will start on the left hand side just behind the striker at the Anfield on Sunday.
Firmino was superb against Manchester City but played again in the mid-week Europa League fixture. He might be rested to give Lallana a place in the starting XI for Liverpool on Sunday.
The Belgian forward has not featured for the Liverpool squad for sometime now but now with Benteke needing a rest after two games in 5 days, he may get his chance to prove his worth again.
Klopp is also known to mix things and play a different formation and different personnel. Jordan Ibe may start on the wing in place of Joe Allen with Milner and Can as the two midfielders. Firimino might be given yet another game leaving Origi on the bench yet again. They may also line-up as follows:
Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno; Milner, Can; Coutinho, Lallana, Ibe, Firmino.
Whatever the team, Klopp has surely induced loads of confidence in the Liverpool team and it will be interesting to see how they can perform at home with all the crowd behind them.
