The Reds were back a Merseyside this afternoon after their grueling but exciting pre-season tour to the US. Liverpool managed to get two victories and two losses in their games in the US but will be happy with all the things they have learned about the vast squad that made the trip.
However, the extensive training scheduled has seen a few players pick up minor injuries recently which kept the manager in the transfer market for further additions.
Jurgen Klopp is still in the market for a left-back and defensive midfielder mainly but is also looking at all other possibilities to add to his squad this summer.
So with just over a week left for the start of the Premier League season, let’s take a look at all the stories surrounding the Anfield outfit on Wednesday:
Sakho to stay at Liverpool:
The fan favorite defender from French, Mamadou Sakho, was sent back home from his trip to the US after a reported rift between the manager and the player.
However, it is now understood that Jurgen Klopp is not yet ready to sell the Frenchman and that he is back in training with the squad at Melwood earlier today. Liverpool are already weak in their center back area and will need all the help they can get and will hope that Sakho mends his ways with the manager and comes out of his injury quickly to provide some options for the manager in that position.
Jonas Hector update:
Liverpool are desperate for a left-back this summer and are looking everywhere in Europe for a quality one.
And one of their first targets was FC Koln’s Jonas Hector. The German international is one of the most exciting players in his position in Europe and is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League. The Reds are believed to have already made a bid for him but failed to land him recently.
But it is now revealed that the left-back is valued at £20million by the Bundesliga outfit and that Liverpool feels that it is a bit inflated. But if Liverpool are desperate, they may well end up meeting his asking price come the start of the season.
Balotelli is not wanted even by Pescara:
Liverpool are also desperate to offload Italian maverick striker Mario Balotelli.
The out-of-favor striker, who was not able to earn himself a permanent deal at AC Milan, where he played last season on loan has given Liverpool a new headache of finding a potential suitor. Pescara, an Italian outfit was reportedly interested in his signature but it is now revealed that the manager has rebuffed all such rumors.
He was reported saying that Mario was not the man he wants at his club next season. “We don’t need to buy figurines just to make somebody happy. We’re working behind the scenes on finding players with the right profile for Pescara. We’re running our own transfer market and if we want to do anything, we need to be patient,” he said, talking to the media.
Charlie Taylor wants out; Liverpool interested:
Liverpool’s search for a left-back has taken them today to Leeds United.
22-year-old Charlie Taylor, who is currently playing a huge role at Leeds has reportedly turned down a contract offer as confirmed by an official source from the club. He is said to cost around £5m and has attracted interests from Liverpool and Newcastle United.
At his price, Taylor is a good option for Liverpool and though he may not be able to take a place in the starting XI, he will provide cover for the already less number of options Liverpool have in that position.
