Liverpool showed two sides of their squad in less than 24 hours when they fell to a 4-0 defeat to Mainz right after a morale boosting 4-0 victory over Barcelona on Saturday.
However, with fatigue playing its part, there is not much concern about their second result with the manager and the players vowing to be better in a week’s time against Arsenal.
Even with just a week left for the start of the season, the club seems to be active in the transfer market and has been linked with deal with a move away from many players and a move to the club for some.
With the Premier League drawing closer by the day, let’s take a look at all the stories coming out of Anfield on the night:
Mario Balotelli offered yet another Italian lifeline:
The Italian maverick has not been in the plans for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool for the next season and is expected to be sold out or sent out on loan this summer.
After many clubs have made an enquiry and turned away, recent reports suggest that Chievo Verona, A Serie A outfit have reportedly had positive talks with the player and the agent and are on the verge of ageing a deal with the Reds. It will be interesting to see how much they are ready to pay for the 25-year old this summer.
Liverpool make move for Martin Odegaard:
The Norwegian international moved to Real Madrid last summer having impressed the Spanish giants with his performances at a tender age. However, he has not got enough game time at the club and is set to move out on loan with a number of clubs including West Ham and Wolfsburg interested in him.
Reports revealed that the player and his father are interested in a move to Liverpool and it is now reported that Liverpool are also making a loan move for the youngster who is happy to work under Klopp.
Christian Benteke to Besikstas:
The Belgian international was not able to impress Jurgen Klopp in the previous season and is set to be sold this summer. A number of clubs have come calling for his signature but have been scared off because of the asking price.
Reports in the morning stated that Turkish outfit Besiktas are ready to make a £21.1 bid for the youngster but it is now revealed that Klopp and Liverpool want to recoup the £32.5m paid on him thus not listening to offers from Besiktas at their price.
Liverpool target El Ghazi to cost £15m:
Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager is reportedly keen on the Ajax winger who has been superb in the last season for the Dutch outfit.
It looked like the club were close to landing their target earlier in the transfer window but it is now reported that Ajax are aware of his demand and have slapped a £15m price tag on their youngster for a move this summer.
Lazar Markovic could still be sold:
The Serbian international picked up an assist for Grujic’s superb goal in the 4-0 routing against Barcelona and has slowly started to impress the manager.
But Klopp in a recent interview revealed that he expects Markovic to work on his game and that he may not yet have a permanent place at the club going into the next season.
Liverpool still in for Joao Mario:
A few days after it was reported that Liverpool’s £33.5m bid for Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario was rejected by Sporting, Liverpool are reportedly set to re-ignite their interest in the EURO16 winner.
Klopp is understood to be desperate for a midfielder this summer and wants Joao Mario to be the man to hold Liverpool’s midfield together. It is now expected that Liverpool will come back with an increased bid to land the player in the coming days.
