During the FA Cup winning celebrations at Wembley, Manchester United players could not keep the lid on their FA Cup as they damaged it by mistake.
After their miraculous win at extra-time over Crystal Palace, after coming back from behind, Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney and the midfielder Michael Carrick were lifting the Emirates FA Cup and the lid on the Cup suddenly flew into the sky. The lid then landed into the lower tier from the Royal Box.
Luckily the security guards were quick enough to retrieve it. They saw that the damage was already done as it had a large hollow sign of damage.
Before sending it back to Manchester United trophy room, via courier, the London silversmiths Thomas Lyte will fix the damage done on the trophy. However, this is not the first occasion when we are receiving such news of the FA Cup being manhandled.
Back in 2012, when Chelsea won over Liverpool, and then damaged the trophy as the trophy slipped from their hands, leaving it in a very poor stage for restoration, the restoration process took more than 80 hours.
After the final Louis Van Gaal agreed that he will be leaving this summer and it was his last game as a Manchester United manager and Jose Mourinho will take his place at the club,
When asked about his future at the club by a SkySports reporter, the 64 year Dutchman replied: “No. It’s over.”
After the FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace Luis Van Gaal was still unwilling to say anything about his future at Manchester United.
He said: “My job? It is not so important for me. I hope to see you next season but I don’t have to prove myself.
“Now I have won the cup in four countries. I’m very happy.”
