Manchester United sealed a perfect win over Everton with goals from Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney. The win has put them level on point with Arsenal only behind Manchester City in the league table.
Despite the near perfect result, there was one glitch for United fans to worry about and it was Juan Mata’s substitution at half-time by Louis Van Gaal. First, it was thought to be an injury but later on the manager confirmed that it was a tactical decision leaving everyone clueless.
Van Gaal said: “That was tactical and I was very happy, I have congratulated him [Lingard] with a good performance in the second half. He didn’t lose any balls, one pass to Wayne Rooney maybe, but that is the only pass I can remember, and he did his defensive work very well so I am very pleased with his performance.”
Mata was replaced by Lingard, who according to Van Gaal did a good job in keeping out Brendan Galloway in the second half. Like his Chelsea days, Mata was criticized for not working hard enough during game and was hooked at half time. What it does to his place in United line up in near future is yet to be seen.
