Major blow for Manchester United as their key transfer target wants Bundesliga stay

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a £18.6 million move for the Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino. Earlier this month, Bild had reported the story where it was claimed that the move was as good as sealed but as it turns out now, the star wants to continue playing in Bundesliga.

Firmino was speaking to a local newspaper where he expressed his desires of seeing out his current contract which expires in 2017. Firmino said:

“I have a contract with Hoffenheim until 2017 and I’m happy here.

“I have developed a lot at this club and right now all I’m thinking about is playing for Hoffenheim.”

These words would come as a major blow to United’s chances of signing the Brazilian star next summer. Firmino is equally comfortable playing in the attacking midfield role or out on the wings.

Firmino has been in an inspired form this season which has seen him getting linked with a move to Old Trafford. Despite Firmino’s recent comments, United would look to test Hoffenheim by putting an official bid in the summer.

Manchester United are hopeful of securing the signature of another Bundesliga star Mats Hummels, who is expected to join United in a £35 million transfer next summer.
