Manchester City will have a relatively low profile fixture as they will relish the opportunity of playing a game with very little pressure when they take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the group stage game of the Champions League. Pellegrini will be gutted with the weekend result at the Britannia stadium as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Stoke. They will however face an inconsequential fixture, as they are already into the last 16 of the competition and Monchengladbach are already out.
Both teams had completely contrast weekends as Monchengladbach come into this game on the back of giving German giants Bayern Munich their first defeat in the league this season. They stuck to their plan really well in the weekend and will hope to re-produce the form when they take on City on Tuesday. They will have to get a victory or will have to rely on Juventus if they want to play in the Europa League for the rest of the season. Here is the preview of the game along with the Team News, Predicted Line-ups and Betting Odds.
The Manchester City vs Borussia Monchengladbach match will be played on Tuesday the 8th of December at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The kick off is scheduled at 7:45 pm BST (1:15 am on Wednesday IST).
Manchester City and Manuel Pellegrini have dearly missed the services of club captain and star defender Vincent Kompany. In his absence, Otamendi and Mangala have looked shaky at times and will be put under pressure even in this game. Sergio Aguero is also recovering from injury and is not available for this game. Star midfielder Yaya Toure is another player who is likely to miss this game due to an ankle injury. Wilfred Bony is back in the squad and may start the game for City.
Monchengladbach manger Andre Schubert produced possibly the best result of this season for the club and will hope that his team can build on that victory and give City a hard time on Tuesday. The squad is fully fit and the manger is expected to name the same side that defeated Bayern Munchen in the weekend fixture.
Hart; Sagna; Otamendi; Mangala; Kolarov; Fernandinho; Delph; Silva; Sterling; De Bruyne; Bony.
Sommer; Korb; Christensen; Elvedi; Nordtveit; Wendt; Xhaka; Dahoud; Raffael; Johnson; Stindl.
Silva vs Xhaka:
One of the battles of the game, David Silva will be up against and inspired Xhaka who has impressed everyone in his time with the German club. Xhaka is a gifted player who excels in breaking play up in front of his back four. He will have to deal with the charisma of David Silva and will have to keep him quite to stand a chance in this game.
Stindl vs Otamendi:
Otamendi has not really settled into the Manchester City squad this season and will have to take his chance in the place of the injured Vincent Komapny. He has not really impressed his manager in the recent times and will have another tough day against the likes of Stindl on Tuesday. Stindl is a proper striker who take every chance that comes his way and will take some stopping when the two team meet on Tuesday.
Manchester City: 8/13
Borussia Monchengladbach: 5/1
City were outplayed by Stoke in the weekend and will be raring to bounce back. They have nothing to gain from this game and can enjoy their time on the field. This will make life hard for the visitors but an inspired performance like the one on the weekend can help Monchengladbach sign off this season’s campaign on a high.
