Manchester United’s hopes of a top four finish was dealt a huge blow after they were held to a goal-less draw by a resilient Hull City.
With Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropping points on Tuesday, a win would have put United only two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. However, Jose Mourinho’s men failed to find a way past an inspired Eldin Jakupovoc as they dropped points for the second game in a row.
The hosts had began the proceedings in fine fashion as Ander Herrera chipped a pass over the top for Henrikh Mkhitaryan only to see Andrew Robertson clearing the danger before the Armenia international could finish. Hull reacted instantly with a Harry Maguire header before Jakupovic tipped a shot from Ibrahimovic past the post in the 14th minute.
The Hull City stopper then denied Paul Pogba with one hand after the Frenchman was played in by a brilliant flick from Ibrahimovic. Wayne Rooney replaced Michael Carrick at half-time but the home team still failed to find the winner. On the other hand, Marco Silva’s men had their fair share of opportunities to walk away with all the three points as Lazar Markovic hit the post and Abel Hernandez failed to control after being played through on goal.
With this draw, Jose Mourinho’s side remained at sixth position which they would have remained even after winning the game but they are now four points shy of fourth and fifth placed Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.

Most draws in the Premier League: Manchester United & Middlesbrough (9 each). Mourinho and Karanka, together again.

It is laughable how many chances Manchester United squander. If they miss out on top four, it’s because of games like these. Woeful.
