The Red of Manchester were dealt another blow in their pursuit to the top when they faced the Canaries at Old Trafford on Saturday. Norwich City were 2-0 up before the hour mark and held onto their lead even as Martial pulled one back for the hosts. This is a massive victory for the visitors as they have now moved out of the relegation zone.

United on the other hand have moved out of the top four spots in the table. Here are the player ratings for this game:

Manchester United:

De Gea (2.5):

Was hardly tested by Norwich on the night but should have done better to keep out Jerome’s first goal.

P Jones (2):

A dismal return from injury for the center back as he was at fault for Norwich’s first goal.

C Smalling (3):

Showed good presence of mind at the back and also pushed forward at times to build up United’s attacks.

M Fellaini (2):

Did his job of holding up the ball when thrown at him in the air but hardly did anything else in the game to help his side.

J Mata (2):

The home side needed a lot more from their Spaniard who played in a number 10 role and failed to create anything of note.

D Blind (2.5):

Provided a good outlet on the flanks in attack for United but was not good enough with his deliveries into the box.

A Young (2.5):

Played as a full back, Young was found wanting for Norwich’s second goal but put in a decent shift otherwise.

M Carrick (2.5):

Was helpless at times in the middle of park as he hardly made any tackles. Was also at fault for the second Norwich goal.

W Rooney (1.5):

A disappointing 500th appearance for the club for Rooney as he rarely troubled the Norwich defenders and failed to act as the vocal point of his club’s attacks.

M Depay (2.5):

Was bright in patches in the flank but had to do a lot keeping in mind his team’s un-inspiring performances.

A Martial (3.5):

A superb game for the youngster as he was constantly under the skin of the Norwich defenders. Also deservedly picked himself a goal and was unlucky to have ended on the losing side.

A Herrera (2.5)

Norwich City:

D Rudd (3):

Hardly had anything to do at the back due to the lack of United’s incisiveness. Could have done nothing to prevent Martial’s goal.

R Martin (3):

Was up against a bright Depay who troubled him but couldn’t get the better of him on the night.

S Bassong (3):

Used his strength and ariel ability to keep United’s attacking threat in check and won his team all three points.

R Bennett (2.5):

Was beaten too easily by Martial for his goal. Apart from that, he was solid at the back.

M Olsson (2):

Was beaten too easily on the flank by Young a number of times and was also at fault in the buildup of Martial’s goal.

R Brady (3):

Though he hardly was present in attack, Brady stuck to his task and defended really well to shut United down from one end.

W Hoolahan (2):

A disappointing display from the Irishman as he was unable to have any impact in front of goal for the visitors.

A Tetty (3.5):

A superb finish from Tetty saw the visitors 2 up before the hour mark. He also frustrated the United mid-field and capped off an all round game with the winner.

G O’Neil (3):

An effective partnership with Tetty in the middle as he tracked back a number of times and broke up play to keep United’s threat to a minimum.

N Redmond (3):

Ws full of energy and running as his directness was a problem for United’s back four all night long.

C Jerome (4.5):

Quite the perfect game for the forward as he did exceptionally well to hold balls up in the final third and also provided the assist for Norwich’s second goal after putting one in himself in the first half. A man of the match performance.

Y Mulumbu (3.5)

J Howson (3)

D Mbokani (3)
