Manchester United are reportedly eyeing former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra as a replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin who is all set to leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
After a mixed start to the season, Jose Mourinho’s men have won their last six games in the Premier League and are back in the race for a top-four spot. However, there are certain areas which need to be addressed and Jose Mourinho is keen to solve them in the ongoing transfer window to bolster his squad in order to keep pace with other big teams. And one area of concern is the central midfielder.
Morgan Schneiderlin is heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month after failing to win Mourinho’s faith. However, United are not willing to part ways with Schneiderlin without recouping their money they had spent to bring him to Old Trafford last season. The 27-year old, who was bought for £24 million last season, had been linked with West Brom Albion and Everton but both the clubs have failed to match the demands of United. The Baggies lodged a £13 million bid while Everton came forward with £19 million but United are not willing to let the player cheaply.
And now reports have suggested Schneiderlin could move to Marseille. The Sun has reported the French giants are eyeing the midfielder and are willing to meet United’s fee demands. Meanwhile, Italian news outlet Foot Mercato has claimed Mourinho is looking to use Schneiderlin as a makeweight in a deal to sign their midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The 31-year old played under Mourinho at Chelsea before leaving for Arsenal in 2007. The French midfielder also played under Mourinho at Real Madrid. Mourinho supported him throughout his stay in the Spanish capital and the midfielder repaid the faith by playing a key role in helping the Los Blancos win the La Liga title in 2011-12.
Meanwhile, the Italian news outlet has also claimed that the midfielder is attracting interest from the lucrative Chinese Super League and the hefty paycheck might make him choose China as his next destination.
