Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have never been close. With reports emerging the Manchester United boss is plotting a double swoop on the Gunner’s two best players, their relationship is unlikely to get better any time soon.
Reports from London.Football and the Express claim Mourinho is after both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez respectively, as both players contemplate their Arsenal futures.
According to one report, the ex-Real Madrid boss is eager to link up once again with German world cup winner, Ozil, whom he worked with at Real Madrid. Both manager and player are still close with Mourinho writing the introduction on Ozil’s, soon to be released, autobiography.
The two-time FA Cup winner has not ruled out the possibility of staying at the Emirates even if Arsene Wenger was to depart, however, the chance to team up with his old boss once again may prove difficult to turn down.
Not content with trying to lure just Ozil, the Manchester United boss is also watching developments regarding Alexis Sanchez too, with the Chile International showing signs of frustration at the Emirates. There have also been reports of a training ground bust-up, although Wenger was quick to deny these claims.
Manchester United had been in the race for the 28-year-old in 2011, but Sir Alex Ferguson lost out to Barcelona, with the player swapping Udinese for the Nou Camp.
Sanchez is rumoured to want an increase in his wages, reportedly from £130,000 to £290,000, something Manchester United would have no problem in doing, while his current club seem reluctant.
Wenger received criticism for selling Robin Van Persie to Manchester United in 2012, but given the current circumstances regarding the growing calls for the Frenchman to depart, if he were to stay on and sell both players to Mourinho, the 67-year-old could have a revolt on his hands.
