Jose Mourinho managed to move past an unwanted record of three successive defeats in the league when his side managed to get the better of the Champions of England at home this weekend.
Goals from Chris Smallin, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba gave the hosts a comfortable victory on the night as they find themselves back on track in the race to the top of the league table this season.
One of the biggest changes that the manager made to the squad was dropping club skipper Wayne Rooney to bring in Juan Mata, a player who he rejected a few years ago at Chelsea.
The Spaniard was in sizzling form on the night, bagging a goal and an assist in an impressive performance and this has now given rise to talks that Rooney will not be able to get back into the starting XI of the club this season.
The 30-yearold came off the bench in the game against the Foxes and is expected to start the Europe League game this week, but it is no secret that his days at the club might be limited.
The England international is still one of the best players in Europe and us just 7 goals away from becoming the top goal scorer for the Red Devils in their history. However, he has not been productive enough recently and is now losing his importance in the squad by the game.
He is contracted to the club for another 2 years, with a mutual option to include a 3rd, but with the recent performance from the 30-year old, United are not really ready to extend his contract.
But reports today have revealed that the club captain is ready to offer his services as a squad player and that he is not really ready to move out of the club anytime soon.
According to the report, Rooney is happy to see off his contract at the club, as a squad player, and is not pondering over a move away from the club due to lack of playing time.
He has been linked with a big-money move to the MLS in the United States in the recent transfer window but it is now understood that he is determined to stay in England and fight for his place in the side.
This competition might also help the skipper come back to his best and help Manchester United to greater things this season.
But at the moment, he is fast becoming a liability for the club and is better off starting from the bench for a few games. Do you think Untied should sell Wayne Rooney at the end of the year?
