United have been struggling in all departments on the field and their fans would have expected them to make a couple of signings atleast given their palpable lack of goals and injuries to the defenders but with just over a day left for the transfer window to shut Manchester United are yet to sign a player.
Manchester United did try to sign Tottenham Hotspurs left-back Danny Rose but they have been rebuffed in their approach by Spurs according to The Sunday People.
Manchester United need to sign a new defender with first choice full backs Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young all out with injuries and may have to look elsewhere after failing to land Danny Rose, a player they scourted atleast 4 times this season. United scouts and manager identified him as an ideal stop-gap signing to cover at left-back where Manchester United have been forced to play teenagers and inexperienced youngsters.
United see Rose as the perfect player to cover for long-term absentee Luke Shaw and were encouraged to move for Danny Rose after Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino had preferred former Swansea star Ben Davies at left-back over Rose.
According to the report, Pochettino is unwilling to sell any more of his stars in January after allowing winger Andros Townsend to join Newcastle earlier in the window.
Spurs and United are both competing for the Champions League places and the North London club do not want to help a club fighting with them for a Champions League spot. Spurs are currently placed 4th in the Premier League table with 42 points while Manchester United are just one spot behind in 5th but are 5 points adrift of Tottenham.
Manchester United do not have enough time on their hands and must step up their efforts to sign a new full back if they want to have any hope of salvaging this season.
