Benfica’s Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan has chosen to move to Atletico Madrid to replace departing Turkish International Arda Turan.

As soon as Atletico management came to know about Turan’s wish to depart, they  wanted Nicolas to fill his void.

Arda Turan is set to leave the La Liga giants for a move to Manchester United, Chelsea or PSG.

If Atletico manage to command a good transfer fee for the Turkish, it will be easy for them to sign the Argentine wizard.

The Argentine midfielder renewed his contract last November, up until 2018, but this also included a reduction in his release clause to €35 million.

That was just the figure they were working around, although Atlético de Madrid obviously tried to reduce it further still.

Agreement between Miguel Ángel Gil and Luis Filipe Vieira, the Benfica president, eventually came, no doubt assisted by the fact that Jorge Mendes is the agent in charge of Gaitán’s career.

Gaitan was a subject of interest from Manchester United also and it seemed that a move to Old Trafford was on the cards for the Benfica player.

But Red Devils’ interest on Turan has made it easier for Atletico to make a move for the Eagles winger.

The ex Boca Juniors player is at Estádio da Luz since 2010 and won Primiera Liga with them 2 times in 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

Gaitán began playing as a midfielder, sometimes leaning to the left. After moving to Benfica he assumed a more advanced role, where he seemed more comfortable.

A left-footer who is also able to play on the right, with good dribbling skills and close control, Gaitán’s main asset is ball distribution as he is able to cross from either flank, and while on the right he possesses the vision to pick holes when cutting inside.

The Argentine has 9 caps for Argentina scoring is 2 occasions.

The signing of Gaitan can possibly fill the void of Arda Turan’s dettarture which is lmost confirmed now.
