Louis van Gaal’s adventure at Old Trafford has just not been able to live up to the expectations with the team still lacking confidence in various areas of the field.
Recent results have seen the fans give up on the manager and it is now widely rumored that the Dutchman will not be in charge of the club come the start of the next season.
With this in mind, a number of managers have been alerted to the availability of a position at one of the biggest clubs in the world and it is now reported that Argentine Mauricio Pochettino is on the wish list to replace Van Gaal after the end of the season.
The Tottenham Hotspur boss last week dismissed any rumors that he will leave the club after the end of the season, but he has been heavily linked with the job at Chelsea with Guus Hiddink appointed only as an interim manager.
But today BBC TV host Dan Walker revealed he has been told by three different sources that the 43-year-old could be on his way to United.
“In the past 72 hours 3 knowledgeable individuals have suggested Pochettino to Old Trafford for next season! Interesting,” he tweeted.
Pochettino is 18 months into a five-year deal at Spurs and has insisted his future is not on his mind.
He has taken the club ever so close to a Champions League spot next season and has said that he wants to be at White Hart Lane for the next season.
“I don’t mind. The media is all about rumours but I don’t care about that,” he said.
“It’s the same with any rumors about players, there’s a lot of names in the media now.”
“My focus is here, to try for success at Tottenham and to work hard. I always work for the present and the future.”
The Argentine has accumulated a young and dynamic squad that has been one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League this season. The London franchise has one of the most exciting players in the league and is looking a team that can easily challenge top sides in Europe.
“I’m very happy here. We’ve created after 18 months a very good group, with a strong basis for success in the future and I’m very happy.
“My job is to be focused, not to hear rumors. The most important thing is that I’m focused on my job.”
Though Jose Mourinho is tipped off to replace Van Gaal for next season, the move might not be on the cards and Pochettino might still end up at the helm of Old Trafford in 6 months time.
