Manchester United latest signing Memphis Depay has once again revealed to the world exactly how important Louis Van Gaal was in order to bring the Dutch star to Old Trafford. Depay has agreed to join Manchester United in a deal close to £25 million. Depay will officially be a United player later next month.

As per Sky Sports, Depay has told the media that he was indeed really close to signing for PSG until Louis Van Gaal stepped in and had a personal conversation with the player. Van Gaal had confirmed the same thing on Friday when he said that he had to intervene in the transfer activities this soon because he knew that Depay was going to PSG.

Depay himself confirmed the news and credited his Old Trafford move to his former national manager Lousi Van Gaal. In an interview with Sky Sports, Depay said:

“I was really close to a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain,”

“But in the last moment, I know Man U was always interested, but not concrete, and in the last moment they called my manager and, of course, I spoke with the trainer Louis van Gaal.

“So yeah, it was a difficult situation, let me say that, but after I spoke with the trainer, Louis van Gaal, I say to myself I want to go to Manchester.

“I’m really proud and I believe that I can be a big player in Manchester.”

Depay has been backed by the likes of Paul Scholes, Japp Stam and Edwin Van der Sar to be oen of the biggest signings for the club and if Depay fulfills the potential and hype surrounding him, United and Van Gaal might have signed a gem for £25 million.
