Jose Mourinho is all set to start the discussion this week as five Manchester United players fearing for their future at Old Trafford, according to a report from Starsport.
Old Trafford boss Mourinho is desperate to keep a happy steady ship ahead of the upcoming pre-season tour to the Far East.
It is believed the Red Devils’ hierarchy had to stall approaches from players’ representatives over the last two weeks, who are all eager to know where their clients right now stand – and whether they will be heading for the exits in the near future.
Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Antonio Valencia, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Phil Jones are the five United players who all remain in the dark at present.
Although The Sun reports Januzaj has dazzled in training and is forcing his way into contention under the new boss. The attacker failed to impress under former boss Louis van Gaal and was shipped out on loan.
He joined Borussia Dortmund temporarily last summer, but was recalled in January after failing to score in his six top-flight appearances.
Several youth players who made breakthroughs under Louis van Gaal last season are also waiting to learn their fate under new manager Mourinho.
Some of them could be kept in and around the first-team squad or sent out on loan.
Mourinho is expected to keep a close-knit team of around 20 players, although United insiders insist the ex-Chelsea supremo yet to decide on the fate of a number of players.
Jose doesn’t want any negativity on the China trip ahead of the upcoming season and will tell his fringe players that it is up to them to convince him why they should keep their place in the squad.
