The first big game of FIFA World Cup 2014 took place between the finalist of the previous edition in 2010 with Netherlands squaring up against the reigning Champions Spain in what turned out to be a remarkable game of football.

Both sets of fans were certainly up for the big game and in good spirits

The Spanish side started the better of the two and Diego Costa won them a controversial penalty early on in the match


Xabi Alonso stepped up and slotted it home easily



It took a superman-esque effort from Robin Van Persie to equalize making it 1-1.

Arjen Robben then put Netherlands up by 2-1 leaving Pique, Ramos and Casillas looking clueless

A dejected Iker Casillas after his mistake led to the 4th goal for Dutch.

David Silva did put the ball in the back of the goal in the latter stages of the match but it was ruled out for offside.  



Fernando Torres with yet another blooper when he missed an easy option to score a goal.
