A couple of incidents in the life of former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s life literally shocked the world. The first and the most unsettling of them being his split with long time partner and Colombian singer Shakira. The two were together since meeting for the first time at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and immediately got into a relationship.
Pique went on to be crowned as a world champion with Spain at the tournament as his relationship with Shakira too headlined the La Roja’s triumph. The couple thereafter moved in together at the veteran defender’s house in Barcelona and had two kids together, Milan and Sasha Pique. However, following some shocking incidents, the two split up last year as an insider has come up with a new revelation.
Gerard Pique’s new girlfriend was at his house even before he split with Shakira
In June 2022, Gerard Pique and Shakira officially confirmed and announced their split after months of speculation. The reason being the Barca defender’s horrific affair with one of his colleagues, Clara Chía Marti. The singer came to know about the 35-year-old cheating on her and decided to separate from him. Since then, Pique has made his relationship with Clara official as after being spotted with her in public a number of times.
However, in a shocking revelation now, it has come to light that Gerard Pique had invited his new girlfriend to his and Shakira’s house before their slit. In a video footage, Clara can be seen in the background of a Twitch interview Pique did in August 2021 from his and Shakira’s house in Barcelona. An insider has revealed there was not rift between Pique and Shakira at that time and now after knowing it, Shakira has been ‘devastated’. The insider told Page Six:
“They were very much still together at that time. It’s devastating for her to learn that this affair had been going on for a lot longer than she imagined.”
Shakira had expressed her devastation at New Year, sharing a post on her Instagram with a lengthy caption, apparently hitting out at Pique and Clara. The ‘Waka Waka’ singer wrote:
“Although our wounds continue to be open in this new year, time has surgeon’s hands. Even if someone has betrayed us, we have to keep trusting. In the face of contempt, keep valuing yourself. Because there are more good people than bad people. More empathetic people than indolent people. There are fewer who leave and more who stay by our side. Our tears are not a waste, they water the soil where the future will be born and make us more human, so in the midst of heartbreak we can continue to love. Doubt.”
Following their split, Pique too went into a hiatus as he frequently was left out of Barca’s squad by new manager Xavi. Finally, in November last year, he announced his retirement from professional football after a 18-year career where he won it all with club and country. He now lives with Clara as both are seen hanging out together quite often. Meanwhile, Pique and Shakira reached settlements on the custody of their children and their £12m house in the Catalonia.
