Manchester United’s winning streak in the Premier League comes to an end within three weeks as Newcastle United hold the Red Devils for a 0-0 draw. Louis van Gaal made just one change in his starting lineup as Bastian Schweinsteiger came in for Michael Carrick.

Manchester United looked dominant from the beginning as they attacked full fledged. The hosts could have taken the lead in the beginning itself as Wayne Rooney had the ball in the net four minutes in after latching onto Adnan Januzaj’s throughball, only to be denied by a marginal offside call.

Wayne Rooney who was out of form in the first two weeks of the season, looked bright and led the charge as United poured forward in the first quarter of an hour.

Newcastle United who had just won a point so far in the first two games looked composed in the match against giants Manchester United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger recieved an early jolt in the first half which kept him off-colour. United were attacking more but could not find a way out to score a goal. Newcastle United’s 33-year-old veteran defender Fabricio Coloccini was resolute in the Magpies’ back line to deny United a goal opportunity. Tim Krul was also instrumental under the bar to keep his team at bay.

Michael Carrick replaced a half fit Bastian Schweinsteiger in the second half. United’s hero during the midweek Memphis Depay who scored a brace against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champion League qualifiers looked off colour as he failed to conevrt a proper move.

Antonio Valencia replaced Matteo Darmian in the second half as Louis van Gaal wanted attacking flavour in the side. Javier Hernandez also made his debut in this season’s Premier League after he replaced Adnan Januzaj.

In the ending moments Chris Smalling came very close to score the elusive goal from a header but it was saved from the goal line. From the save move Newcastle generated a brilliant counter-aatck as substitute Papiss Cisse placed a pass towards new signing Florian Thauvin who missed to score the winning goal by a whisker.

It was a thoroughly entertaining game between the two sides as the Magpies played quality football to encounter giants Manchester United at their home.
