‘Next Thierry Henry’ is coming to Emirates, Arsenal to secure £33.2m deal

Following a 6-0 demolition of Champions League opponents and after recording seven wins in a row, not many Arsenal fans will be screaming from the rooftops for Arsene Wenger to invest in a striker anytime soon.

However, that’s just what he might be doing as early as this January, according to QS Sport (via Calciomercato), who claim AC Milan frontman M’Baye Niang is in the Arsenal manager’s thoughts ahead of this winter’s window, albeit with the transfer more likely to occur during the summer.

The €35 million (£33.2m) Frenchman has been compared to the legendary Arsenal striker in the past, however, the player himself is reluctant to put himself in the same bracket as the former marksman.

In an interview with Milan’s official website in 2013 (via ESPN) Niang claimed he still has a long way to go before he even begins to get near to the status of his fellow countryman.

“No, I am a long way off him yet.

“He achieved so much and I have to work hard, but my objective is to become better than Henry.”

In just 21 appearances for the Italian giants last term, in what was a season bookended by injury, Niang scored an impressive eight goals and has thus far this season scored a further three league goals.

These are not staggering statistics, however, for a 21-year-old in one of the best leagues in Europe, it is a solid record.

The question now is though, do Arsenal actually need him?
