Sunderland AFC have officially announced the signing of Bayern Munich’s centre-back Jan Kirchhoff. Jan spent nearly 2 and a half years at the German club but was often made to sit on the bench. The lad made just 10 appearances over the years and failed to start in any of the fixtures. The spell at Bayern Munich was basically a disastrous one for the CB as he wasn’t awarded with first team performance. Last season, Kirchhoff played at Schalke as a part of the loan move.
Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce told the club website: “Jan has a very good pedigree…He has real versatility as a player, being comfortable in both the centre-back and midfield roles.
“He is desperately keen to experience the Premier League and our job now is to do everything we can to help him settle and adapt quickly to life in English football, so he can have a positive impact on our squad.”
Allardyce’s Black Cats have conceded 39 goals in their 20 Premier League games this season and scored just 22.
Those problems at both ends of the pitch have left them in 19th place, four points adrift of-of safety.
The manager has also been linked with an interest in Italy striker Ciro Immobile, currently on loan at Spanish club Sevilla from Borussia Dortmund.
Here’s the tweet of the official announcement.
