OMG!! Marcos Rojo Had To Attend Drug Test After Eating Banana On The Pitch

Usually when Manchester United play, it’s either the likes of Paul Pogba or Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbing the headlines for something they’ve done with the ball.

However, during Thursday night’s Europa League encounter with Rostov most of the talk was about defender Marcos Rojo and his mid-match eating habits.

Yep, for some reason the Argentine eating a banana during the second half of the game was much more interesting than anything else that happened over the course of the 90 minutes with social media going into meltdown at the sight of it.Marcos Rojo

Seeing a sportsman eat fruit mid-match is nothing strange. Footballers frequently consume bananas during games because of their slow-release properties, while tennis players are actively encouraged to eat them between sets.

But for some reason, everyone lost their heads. Jose Mourinho failed to see the funny side in the post-match interview, while players Chris Smalling and Juan Mata didn’t even know what had happened.

But it appears as though those running the game also found his fruit munching strange and apparently pulled him aside for a random drugs test after the final whistle.

Rojo was immense during United’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea on Monday night, earning plaudits from fans and pundits alike in a way he never has before since joining the club.

And again against Rostov just three days later he was in good form, so it’s no wonder that he needed a little energy boost as the clock ticked down.

But he confirmed to journalists after the game that he was late for his media duties because UEFA had selected him for a drug test.

He insisted that he had been selected at random for the test, but given what had transpired on the pitch it could suggest that it wasn’t as random as he’d have us all believe.

Fortunately for him bananas aren’t on the banned substance list, so he can have as many as he likes.

United have just a short rest now before taking on Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Sunday with hopes of keeping their Champions League aspirations alive.

Whether Rojo will be able to put in another strong performance to match his previous two remains to be seen, so he’d better get a few bananas in him already.

However, United could be without midfielder Paul Pogba, who was forced to hobble off early in the second half with an apparent hamstring strain.

Mourinho’s post-match comments suggested that he wouldn’t be surprised to see his side lose to the now manager-less Boro given their hectic schedule this week.

Looks like Jose will need to get rotating.
