Defending Premier League champions Chelsea FC have officially announced the signing of former Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez for a transfer fee of€30 million yesterday. After completing the move, Pedro had joined Chelsea’s training yesterday.

After the training session ended spoke to the media where he revealed the reasons why he joined Chelsea this summer. The official Chelsea website quoted: “It’s absolutely great to be here … [Mourinho] is one of the main reasons why I’m here. He phoned me a few times and said he needed me to make the team stronger.

“He has won titles wherever he has been. I am really looking forward to playing under him and hopefully winning more titles.

“I spoke to Cesc. We are very good friends. I knew I would feel at home here and that was one of the main reasons why I decided to join.

“He’s a great player, he’s got brilliant vision and he links up really well with the other attacking players. I know we work well together on the pitch so I can’t wait to play with him again.

“I have also played with Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta before, for the national team, so I feel very comfortable here.

“I do everything possible to win. I have helped Barcelona win titles and I want to do exactly the same thing at Chelsea because ultimately we are all here to win things.”

Pedro mentioned that as there are several other Spanish players in the Chelsea squad alongside whom he had played previously either at Barcelona or the Spanish national team it will not be huge task for him to adjust to the new conditions.

Pedro was initially linked with a move to Manchester United. Even Manchester City showed interest in the Spaniard, but Chelsea joined the race in the last moment and successfully roped in the player for Barcelona.

He is an experienced player who has won every possible accolade in word football both for Barcelona and national team Spain. Pedro’s inclusion would be a huge boost for the Chelsea side who would love to come back to form as soon as possible.

Chelsea takes on West Bromwich Albion this Sunday, 23rd of August.
